A conference for Assistant Principals will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the MCSA Building, 3550 Amazonas Drive, Jefferson City, Missouri. The conference will focus on topics of high interest for Missouri assistant principals. The presenters will be current outstanding principals who have had high success in those areas.
The facilitator will be Cindy Gum who has served as an educator in the state of Missouri for the past 30 years and retired at the end of the 2007-2008 school year. She is actively involved in the Administrator Mentor Training program (AMP) through DESE and serves as a mentor to beginning principals and assistant principals.
Cindy’s philosophy as an educational leader centers on the concept that every child has the ability to learn. A safe, warm and caring environment and a feeling of success for all are the dominant features in her educational endeavors. Assessment and early interventions must play an important role in a child’s education, and an environment in which educators are able to continually learn and grow is critical.
Some of the initiatives that Mrs. Gum has been involved in are Professional Learning Communities, Balanced Literacy/Reading Recovery, Cooperative Learning, Positive Behavior Supports, Response to Intervention, BIST, Fight Free Schools and Conflict Resolution. She helped to write the initial grant for 21st Century Schools in Camdenton which resulted in before- and after-school academic programs that have been models for other schools in the state and country. She also wrote grants for eMINTS classrooms which help teachers create inquiry-based classrooms and become leaders in the use of technology for enhancement of learning. Cindy also served as a facilitator for several years for the state’s Satellite Academy, a year-long leading edge leadership training opportunity for school leaders which includes the popular Outdoor Leadership Experience.
The registration fee is $100 for MAESP members and $125 for non-members.
